Ford Supports Mobility and Transportation Startups
As technology rapidly develops across every business sector, especially the auto manufacturing industry, companies are searching for fresh, talented innovators to join the movement. Ford has taken this forward-thinking method to the next level with its contribution to Techstars Mobility, driven by Detroit. This program provides funding to startups that want to develop ideas relating to mobility and transportation. By the same token, Ford is in the midst of building its Ford Smart Mobility initiative, which it deems the next step in customer experience, mobility, connectivity, data, analytics and autonomous vehicles.
Techstars Mobility, driven by Detroit is now accepting applications for this year’s funds. Up to 12 startups will be selected to receive $120,000 of seed money, as well as three months of mentoring and training to develop concepts that align with Ford Smart Mobility. According to this release from Ford, the class of 2016 is encouraged to focus on advancements in four areas: flexible ownership and user experience, information technology and data analytics, multimodal trip integration, and the consumer experience. Applications are due in March, the program begins in June and the young innovators will showcase their work in September.
Last year, 10 startups were included in the Techstars Mobility group. Since the program ended last fall, these 10 growing companies have raised more than $3 million, while seven of the startups have established a presence in the Detroit area. For more perspective, the class of 2015 had more than 300 mentors and eight active corporate entities involved with the development of their ideas.
