Ford Invests Billions in the Future of Electrified Vehicles
Scientists continuously discuss the negative impact of vehicle emissions on our planet over time. Many car manufacturers have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprint by building hybrid and otherwise eco-friendly models. However, some companies such as Ford are preparing to take their green and efficient models to the next level.
Ford recently announced that it will invest $4.5 billion in electrified vehicle solutions in the next five years. By 2020, the American manufacturer plans to have 13 electrified vehicles in its product portfolio. At that point, more than 40 percent of Ford cars around the world will run on electricity. But these vehicles won’t just be good for the environment; they’ll be more practical than ever, too. The future Ford Focus Electric with a new DC fast-charge battery capability can be charged up to 80 percent within 30 minutes, which allows it to run for 100 miles.
This announcement marks the largest-ever electrified vehicle investment within a five-year period that Ford has made. One upcoming feature to look forward to is SmartGauge with an EcoGuide LCD instrument cluster with customizable displays that permits you to see real-time EV power usage and maximize the car’s efficiency. You can also look forward to a Brake Coach system that will instruct you on how to use smooth braking as a way to maximize how much energy is collected in the Regenerative Braking System and returned to the battery.
When it comes to the future of Ford vehicles, the focus is on including the most exciting technology rather than the most technology, according to the company’s press release. Going forward, the manufacturer will be evaluating how differences in economics, technology, societies and cultures play into product design.
